ABOUT
Matt Coombes was born in 1998 in Hampshire, UK. The work shown on this website is his portfolio, which spans AS and A2 Level, as well as work made as part of his Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, in which he followed a fine art "pathway", with the view to apply for degree courses in Architecture. Matt has produced work as a painter, including extensive still lifes. However, more recent work sees him explore installation and photography, as well as produce work with stone and projected media, showing his wide range of skills and interests. He often expresses interest in an array of artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Howard Hodgkin and Ginny Herzog, whose influences allow him to examine different ways of thinking and schools of art. Coombes currently works alongside his contemporaries, fine artist Phillip Olney and illustrator William James, sharing a studio space in Bournemouth, Dorset.
